Setting on the Pilgrimage of Paths of the Soul in the Summer of 2017

On June 20, 2017, the Paths of the Soul, a new film directed by Director Zhang Yang after 26-year preparation, was released in mainland China, which brought countless people's Tibetan feelings out.

The film was shot on the roof of the world, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, over 4000 meters above sea level.

The film told a story about faith: the story took place in the year of the horse in Tibetan calendar; according to the legend, in ordinary years, one of your wish could come true if you trekked around Mount Kailash for thirteen circles, while in the year of horse, it could come true as long as you trekked around Mount Kailash for only one circle. In that year, the holy mountain "Mount Kailash" located in Ngari also welcomed its animal year, which meant a lot to turn around the mountain. This was a story about growth and transformation of a group of 11 people with their own hopes after going through birth, death, stunning Tibetan scenery, disaster, changes and inner torture. They had courageous hearts and indestructible faith. They seeked joy amidst sorrow , they gone with the God's will, and they were patient, fearless and realistic. The story seemed to be magnificent, but in fact it was extremely plain, while in such extremely plain narrative rhythm, it made the audience moved to tears everywhere.

This film was shown in Toronto International Film Festival and other film festivals in more than ten countries in Europe and America, and gained great repercussions. In addition to the touching story, this film also showed relaxed and pleasant plateau sceneries.

Mount Kailash is a world recognized holy mountain located in Burang County, Ngari Prefecture, Tibet. The peak of the mountain is covered with snow all the year round and is as bright as the crown, therefore it is also known as the "King of Holy Mountains". The sunny side of the mountain is covered by perpetual snow, somehow not melting all the year round, while the back side of the holy mountain is snow free all the year round, even if it is covered by snow, the snow will melt as soon as the sun comes out, which is contrary to the rules of nature and very mysterious.

Mount Kailash, together with the nearby holy Lake Manasorovarand and Naimona'nyi Peak forms the most beautiful scenery on the roof of the world. Local Tibetan pilgrims and pilgrims from India, Bhutan and Nepal come here every year. In addition to believers, tourists from all over the world are willing to travel thousands of miles to the foot of the holy mountain to enjoy beautiful sceneries and feel the call of faith.

For centuries, Mount Kailash has been a place of worship for pilgrims and explorers, but so far no one has yet been able to climb the holy mountain, or dared to offend the center of the world. Mount Kailash is often shrouded by white clouds, which makes it hard to see its true appearance. Its peak is covered with snow all the year round and towers above thousands of mountains, making it powerful in both vision and soul. Local people think it's a blessing to see the peak.

It is said that "traveling in Tibet all the year round, the stories encountered are far more touching than the film Paths of the Soul". Maybe you can really feel the magic of faith only when you step on the road to it, when you look at the believer coming from the opposite side with long and devout kowtows, and when you touch his body with your own hands.

In fact, Mount Kailash not only belongs to the believers, but also to every one of us ordinary people. It is not as far away as you thought. Countless people with love for plateau and sincere hearts have stepped out a path for us with their feet, so that we can see more beautiful sceneries and have the most special experience in this journey of faith.
