October to the next April is the winter of Ngari. During this period, the weather is mostly windy and cold. It is still cold in the daytime despite of the sunshine, and you need to wear thick down jacket or a coat to against the coldness. Temperature can drop down to minus 20 degrees at nights, which is unsuitable for outdoor activities.

The best time and best season to visit Ngari

According to the weather in Ngari, the best time to go to this area is from May to October.

Although summer is also the rainy season of Ngari, there won’t be huge influence on the journey because of the less rainfall. The main road from Lhasa to Shiquan River Town has been laid with asphalt, so there won’t be any influence on the road in rainy days, either. Most of the roads to Ngari haven’t been laid with asphalt except the Xinjiang-Tibet Highway. If you don’t plan to go to Ngari via this highway, you shouldn’t go there in July and August, because the rainfall is the heaviest during this period, and most of the roads will become muddy.
