Ngari is a mysterious region in Tibet. With an average altitude of up to 4,500 meters, it is reputed as “the Roof of the Roof of the World”. Yet that doesn’t mean that Ngari is an unlivable place. It boasts numerous snow-capped mountains and lakes. The water is clean and plants flourish particularly well here, making this place a wonderland for groups of sheep and cattle. Besides, a large number of rare wild animals and plants can also be seen here, because the unique climate and topographical conditions have created a perfect environment for them. What’s more, Ngari is also the birthplace of Zhangzhung, an ancient culture and kingdom of western and northwestern Tibet. And lastly, the holiest mountain in Buddhism — Mount Kailash, is located at Ngari.
Most people would like to go to Ngari to have a look at this mysterious land when they travel to Tibet. But when they are told that the altitude of Ngari is the highest in Tibet, many of them would be too scared to go there. Location:Lake Manasarovar is located at Purang County. It is 30km away from Mount Kailash, and between the lake and the mountain is the famous Xinjiang-Tibet Highway.

Kailash and Lake Manasarovar - Zanda Earth Forest - the Ruins of the Guge Kingdom. You will spend the first 3 days visiting Lhasa to adapt to the high altitude. Then the next 2 - 3 days will be spent along the way from Lhasa to EBC. And when you get to Mt. Kailash and Lake Lake Manasarovar, it is believed that you would have already adapted to the altitude here. Therefore, you would be pretty relaxed and comfortable in Ngari.
