Nagqu is located in the hinterland of the Qiangtang Plateau in northern Tibet. It is deeply inland and between the mountains. The terrain is dominated by grassland pastures, with an average elevation of about 4,500 meters. Due to its high altitude and geographical location, the overall climate is cold, dry and anoxic with harsh natural environment.
